MONDAY:
All classes: In class- introduced Reading Journal assignment. HOMEWORK: Complete reading journal in "5 Lessons" article (question #4) in packet.

TUESDAY:
All classes: In class - begin reading "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan in literature book. Focus on noticing, annotating, connecting, and responding. HOMEWORK: Complete Comprehension Check questions #1-5 on pg. 25 if not finished in class. (Period 1 and 5: No homework!)

WEDNESDAY: Data delay!
All classes: In class - review Comprehension Check questions. Complete Reading Journal entry for "Two Kinds." HOMEWORK: Reading Journal entry for "Two Kinds" if not finished in class.

THURSDAY:
All classes: In class - close read of "Two Kinds." 

FRIDAY:
Periods 1 and 5: In class - partner revision of "Two Kinds" reading journal. HOMEWORK: Finish reading journal revision if not finished in class.

All classes: Library orientation and scavenger hunt. Periods 1, 4, 5, and 6 completed library scavenger hunt. Periods 7 and 8 completed pre-tests. All classes received "Welcome!" assignment which is due on FRIDAY.

WEDNESDAY:
All classes: Begin discussion of reading strategies with "talking to the text" with nonfiction article. HOMEWORK: Finish "talking to the text" using 4 of the symbols listed under "Step 1" on the front page. Be sure to write a quick note to yourself to remember why you selected that symbol. (For example: ? - Why did they choose to study this?)

THURSDAY:
All classes: Continue work with nonfiction article.\
HOMEWORK: Finish sections 1, 2, and 3 in nonfiction article if not finished in class.

FRIDAY:
All classes: "Welcome!" assignment dueGroup quiz activity.

Welcome to a brand new school year, students and families! Each week, you will be able to find information about what has been completed in class and what is assigned or due each day. Class summaries will be written in italics and will simply explain what was done in class that day and what assignments were given. Entries written in bold and highlighted indicate due dates as well as dates of upcoming quizzes and tests.

All classes: Syllabus and procedures reviewed in class. Syllabus should be signed and returned by Friday.

TUESDAY:
All classes: Review additional procedures. Begin "First Day Jitters" read aloud.

Period 2 - PSSA 8: In class -- post-test and work on lunch room food fight. Food fight analysis paragraphs are due on the 19th. They cannot be turned in late because our class will not meet again.
