MONDAY:
All classes: Finish word study assignment for tomorrow.

TUESDAY:
All classes: In class - partner scoring; connotation's impact on mood and tone notes and practice.
Period 1: HOMEWORK: Answer the last question on the note sheet - What does "power of the pen" mean?
Period 4, 5, 6, 7, 8: HOMEWORK: Finish "My African Mother" (3rd read questions)

WEDNESDAY:
All classes: In class - practice with connotation's impact on mood and tone. Completed "My African Mother" and "My Name" in connotation/denotation packet. HOMEWORK: Finish any work not completed in class. Get progress report signed and returned by Friday.

THURSDAY:
Period 1: In class - completed "My Name" in connotation/denotation packet. 
Period 4, 6: In class - read "The Eyes Have it" and practiced author's tone/mood. Completed #1-4. HOMEWORK: Finish #4 using RACERS if not finished in class. (Period 6 - Find one more example of humor.)
Period 7, 8: Finish "Analyzing Tone & Mood Within a Text" (MacArthur's speech). Be prepared for writing tomorrow.

FRIDAY:
All signed progress reports due!
Periods 1, 5, 7, 8: September Reading Journals due!
All classes: RACERS practice.

TUESDAY:
All classes: In class - reviewed close read notes and "Analyze the Text." Introduced concept of connotation and denotation. HOMEWORK: Finish Part 2 in connotation/denotation packet if not finished in class.

WEDNESDAY:
All classes: In class - reviewed last night's homework and covered additional connotation/denotation practice.

THURSDAY:
All classes: In class - Connotation/denotation practice. HOMEWORK: Yellow connotation/denotation worksheet. Prep for tomorrow's quiz.
Periods 4 and 6: HOMEWORK: Finish September Reading Journals!

FRIDAY:
All classes: Bellringer collection day! 15 point connotation/denotation quiz!
Periods 4 and 6: September Reading Journals due!
All classes: HOMEWORK: Complete the top part of the Word Study assignment for Monday if not finished in class. (HINT: For connotation, simply write either positive or negative, then for your synonym, try to pick a word with the opposite connotation.)

TUESDAY:
All classes: In class - begin reading "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan in literature book. Focus on noticing, annotating, connecting, and responding. HOMEWORK: Complete Comprehension Check questions #1-5 on pg. 25 if not finished in class. (Period 1 and 5: No homework!)

WEDNESDAY: Data delay!
All classes: In class - review Comprehension Check questions. Complete Reading Journal entry for "Two Kinds." HOMEWORK: Reading Journal entry for "Two Kinds" if not finished in class.

THURSDAY:

WEDNESDAY:
All classes: Begin discussion of reading strategies with "talking to the text" with nonfiction article. HOMEWORK: Finish "talking to the text" using 4 of the symbols listed under "Step 1" on the front page. Be sure to write a quick note to yourself to remember why you selected that symbol. (For example: ? - Why did they choose to study this?)

THURSDAY:
All classes: Continue work with nonfiction article.\
HOMEWORK: Finish sections 1, 2, and 3 in nonfiction article if not finished in class.

FRIDAY:
