January 1-5

There is no school on Monday, January 1.

READING 7:
This week, we will pick up with our study of word choice and word meanings. We will review the content, do whole-group instruction to practice, and end the week with Study Island practice. There will be a word choice and word meanings quiz on MONDAY, JANUARY 8.

ENGLISH 9:
This week, we will dive back into Romeo and Juliet, picking up with Act 3. As we read, we will continue working with our study guides as well as dive into sonnet form. After Act 3, there will be a mid-point test based off the study guide to review student understanding of the text thus far. The test date will be dependent upon our movement through the act.

December 18-22

READING 7:
This week, we are completing the Ugly Sweater Challenge to practice multiple meanings of words -- technical, figurative, connotative, and denotative. Students will be working in groups through a series of questions testing their knowledge of these topics to create an ugly sweater that matches the key. The challenge must be completed by THURSDAY. There will be no homework this week. Friday is an 11 AM dismissal.

ENGLISH 9:
We will wrap up our study of Act 2 this week using read aloud, film, and audio version of Romeo and Juliet. We will continue looking at character and begin focusing on the crimes committed in the play to prepare ourselves for our persuasive writing assignment that will occur at the end of the play. At the end of Act 2, we will apply our study of character and theme to a Christmas movie, completing a character and thematic analysis. Friday is an 11 AM dismissal.

December 11-15

READING 7:
We are continuing our practice with text structure this week. There will be an open-note quiz to ensure that students have the correct notes from the Google Doc. We will work in rotations and will conclude our practice with a quiz on Friday.

ENGLISH 9:
We are continuing our work with Romeo and Juliet, diving into Act 2 this week. The majority of work will be completed in class. Any work not finished in class will become homework.

December 4-9

READING 7:
We will begin our week with whole-group instruction on text structure on both Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday will be spent in the computer lab completing CDT tests. All students will earn 10 points for completing their CDT as well as an additional 5 bonus points for showing growth.
TUESDAY HW: Finish text organization notes packet.

ENGLISH 9:
This week, we will continue reading Romeo and Juliet by wrapping up Act 1 on Monday and completing text analysis as an open-book Act 1 quiz on Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday will be spent in the computer lab completing CDT tests. All students will earn 10 points for completing their CDT as well as an additional 5 bonus points for showing growth.

May 28-June 1

READING 7: This week, we will watch the movie version of Wonder , comparing and contrasting the novel to the film version. ENGLISH 9: T...
